Words Worth Reading Ltd Fundraising Events

Words Worth Reading Ltd are committed to raising money for charity and we donate 10% of all our submission fees to Oxfam. In addition to our submission donations we also hold various fundraising activities throughout the year to raise money and awareness of several charities including Oxfam, Shelter, RSPCA and The Dogs Trust. Please see below for details of our previous fundraising events and for information about forthcoming events.

7th June 2009 - Barking and Dagenham 3km Fun Run

Seven members of the Words Worth Reading team sported their shorts and t-shirts and braved the mud to take part in the Barking and Dagenham 3km Fun Run. The whole team completed the course successfully with Samantha Pearce and Sam Bolton leading the team home stride for stride. The total sum raised through sponsorship of our runners was £305, which has been donated to Oxfam.

Seven Sisters Dog Walk

On Saturday 5th September, Samantha Pearce with her dog Nanci, and five members of the Words Worth Reading team and their dogs, travelled to Eastbourne for a sponsored walk. All six members of the team braved the elements at the Seven Sisters, the beautiful chalk cliffs on the Sussex Heritage coastline. The Seven Sisters Country Park offers some of the finest coastal downland views in the whole of the UK; not that the Words Worth Reading team had much time to look!

Walking over the cliffs and back again, the team covered a staggering distance of 20 miles which took approximately 6 hours to walk! They managed to squeeze in just enough time for lunch before the hike back. Some of the team found themselves consuming large amounts of cream scones before the return, purely to keep up their energy levels!

Despite the intense wind and rough landscape, the Words Worth Reading team and their dogs loved the experience, though most of those taking part couldn’t move the next day! In spite of their aching muscles, they remained cheerful remembering that they had raised a massive £150 for Oxfam! Words Worth Reading would like to say a big thank you to all those who sponsored them.

In addition to Oxfam, we actively raise money for The Dogs Trust; The RSPCA; The Basement Project; Beat; BPD World and SWWJ
