25% of Freelancers unemployed

A survey by Manchester’s Enterprise Freelance Fair found that 28 percent of freelancers, including writers, have little or no work. Conversely, 35% were either over-worked or busy, whilst over one third are getting by on less work.

The research also uncovered that the greatest pain is being felt in the 45-plus age group – none of whom complained of having too much work.

The survey results were based on 160 responses from freelancers across the UK, during September and October 2011.
