Information Governance Toolkit – voluntary sector requirements

When version 9 of the Information Governance Toolkit was released earlier this year, it brought with it the opportunity for organisations belonging to the voluntary sector to undertake Information Governance assessment and registration.

The voluntary sector ‘view’ on the Information Governance Toolkit contains a developmental set of requirements that the Department of Health’s Information Governance Policy team will be working on over the next 6-9 months with a voluntary sector working group. The ‘view’ is appropriate for voluntary organisations providing advisory and support services from an office base or perhaps in a service user’s home. It is not appropriate for in-patient or residential type services, nor is it appropriate for new community organisations that have resulted from PCT reconfiguration.

Connecting for Health has suggested that, ‘organisations wishing to register under this view should contact the Exeter Helpdesk (exeter.helpdesk@nhs.net) for the attention of IGT 3rd line. Those obtaining registration will be invited to join the working group to assist in the development of the guidance and knowledgebase materials.
