Nobel Prize for literature to be announced this week

The winner of the 2014 Nobel prize for literature is to be announced tomorrow, Thursday 9th October at noon (BST).

Haruki Murakami and the Kenyan writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o are joint favourites to win the literary world’s greatest honour.

According to betting company Ladbrokes, for months Murakami has been the favourite to win, but as the announcement has drawn closer, odds for Ngũgĩ have been cut from 12/1, to 6/1 then 4/1, where he currently sits as joint favourite with Murakami.

The Swedish academy will make the announcement tomorrow, whoever wins will not only have the great honour of accepting the title but also an eight million kronor (£693,000) prize.
